Plants, Farming and Photos!

So I apologize for the complete disorganization and lack of explanations for these photos, but I get antsy spending too much time on the computer. (hopefully most are self-explanatory).

The short and sweet of the first month of living on the farm is that it's been an amazing experience. We spent a morning doing a photo shoot for a Danish fashion magazine featuring "young farmers." I've met incredible people and explored the beautiful Hudson Valley rock climbing in the Gunks, doing a century ride, swing dancing every week, throwing pottery, watching movies at an independent non-profit movie theatre, live music, running on the beautiful windy secluded roads and spending a lot of time playing in the mud.

My room-mate, Maureen, is awesome. Dave is patiently teaching us everything, including tractor maintenance, soil testing and of course all involved with producing food. Farming is hard work, but a very rewarding experience. We've already filling our plates with asparagus. Life is in full bloom as we anticipate our first pick-up at the end of the month. So much to talk about and share, but I hope these photos will do for now.

Cheers!

Maureen took many of these first photos. Dave took the photos with the red tractor.

How Many Apprentices Does It Take To Clean A Chicken Coop?

A plethora of much awaited fairly self-explanatory photos-enjoy.

The Farm- Built nearly 100 years ago, we have two barns, a greenhouse, pumphouse, several tractors, a solar panel and, of course, Farmer Dave.

Maureen and I live in the little apartment in the corner.

Major kitchen clean-up.

Farmer Dave and his 3 year old son Ben.

The Greenhouse-Farmer Dave built this greenhouse by himself. Currently we have seeded and planted out mainly greens and flowers. Eventually I'll write an entire post about the greenhouse.

Tractors- We get to drive them!
The Chickens- We have nine chickens. Every morning we feed and water them and collect a basket of fresh organic eggs!

Hans, the master of the world rooster, and Cleopatra?, one of his many lady friends.

Mark and Beatrice share a special moment together.

The chicken whisperer.

Our root cellar keeps crops cool for a very low cost. We still have carrots and potatoes from last year!
